Small but Great for Feeding Bees Sugar Water.I removed three frames from a standard Langstroth hive and replaced them with two of these dispensers to feed sugar water to a newly-installed package of bees. Unlike larger, two-gallon internal dispensers that I used in the past, they did not kill a single bee because their design makes drowning virtually impossible. The sugar water receptacles fit snugly into their bases, so they also did not leak. To my mind, having to refill them more often than larger sugar-water dispensers was a small price to pay for such an inexpensive, trouble-free and worthwhile product. I plan to buy more of them; two per hive, in the future. Use inside the hiveIf you’re going to buy these, use them inside your hive to not have the food robbed. Question: I’m not a beekeeper.. can I just put this my yard for bees that are just passing through? So many dies in our pool, I’d like to offer another source. Answer: I bought this specifically for this purpose. I placed it on my pool ladder during the end of the season. Some of the bees liked it, others could care less.I’m going to put it out again this year on a tree near the woodline and see if that helps. Just so you’re clear, the jar is very small, maybe a little more than a kids cup from a restaurant. Question: How many ounces does this feeder hold? Answer: About 16
