Alcohol Aluminum Budweiser Rolled UltraLite Backpacking StoveThe Alcohol Aluminum Budweiser Rolled Ultra Lite Stove hasbeen made for many years now dating back to the early 2000’s. It has been madeby many people and all have some basic design differences but operate very similarto each other, and will give many years of service. What is for sale here is a basic clone of the one piece Bios5 stove as has been basically developed by John Austin (Tinny) ofMinibulldesign and it is an accumulation of many ideas put together of a periodof many years by many stove manufactures, some of these Ideas are unique;however, to the Bios 5. All of these stoves are very light (around 1 oz.) andthe fuel is readily available from many places. You can use Methyl Alcohol soldin many places (like truck stops, Quick Picks, Wal-Mart) as “HEET” in theyellow bottle (Gas-Line Antifreeze & Water Remover). You can use DenaturedAlcohol as sold in many hardware stores and Wal-Mart (Paint Section). You can evenuse 180 proof Vodka, Rum or Ect.However you cannot use IsopropylAlcohol of any kind. None of these stove designs are able to simmer your food butare primarily selected because of their light weight and EASE OF OPERATION toboil water in order to hydrate backpacking meals. If you want to boil water forpack packing use; this, is one of the best proven stoves on the market, andwill provide for many years of dependable use! Outside of laying this stove on itsside and stepping on it there is nothing to go wrong with it. But then I guessthis would damage about any stove!List below are the main features of this design and why theyare important. 1 1.) 100% rolled side design. This design is madefrom one piece of aluminum and has no moving parts to go wrong or fail. It is adesign where the bottle is rolled down all the way from top to bottom on theinside wrinkle free, and can only be produced from certain Budweiser Bottles. Thisparticular design lends itself to more storage space when packing and allows forsome space savings when packing by allowing more items to be stored inside thestove than the two piece design of this type of this stove. In the two piecedesign the top of the bottle is cut off in such a way to fit into the bottom ofthe bottle and the very top edge of the outer edge of the bottle is rolled overto hold the center section in place. This type of stove provides less storagespace but functions equally as well. Both designs have very high wall strengthand hold up well for many years. 2. 2.) The Fiberglass wicking attached to the BottomOutside edge of the stove. Many people will argue the point that this isn’t necessaryor that their stove doesn’t require this. In probably 99% of the use I wouldagree that this is true. However if you plan to use this stove in very coldweather you will find as many backpackers have complained, that you will have avery hard time lighting this type of stove without this feature. You can getthe stove lit if you warm it up and the Alcohol first to your body temperature. The fact of the matter is that Alcohol like many other accelerants includingeven gasoline do not light very easily in very cold temperatures in opencontainers. With the wick this problem is solved. By placing a small amount ofAlcohol on the wick the Alcohol lights easily just as in lighting a candle. Youdo not need to use the wick if you don’t want to in most cases, however; invery cold temperatures you will have a hard time getting these types of stovelite without it. Another argument for using thewick is that the stove blooms in a matter of seconds because of the increasedheat flow to the sides of the stove. This actually allows for the stoveto be used quicker. Whereas just lighting the Alcohol in the inside takeslonger for this action to happen. These stoves actually operate by boiling thealcohol into a vapor in order for the outside jets to begin to work, and thisis the major source of heat.3. 3.) Outside jetting. The outside exposed holes nearthe top of the stove is where the Alcohol Vapor escapes and creates the mainsource of heat to boil your water, all of these types of stoves are required tohave these in order to work. You will find that between manufactures the holesmay vary in size, quantity, and location. For this particular stove these holeshave been sized and placed to work best in most normal applications and in aboutany environment.4. 4.) Breather holes inside the stove. Inside this particularstove there are breather holes located both at the bottom and top of the insiderolled wall. The bottom holes have been placed there to allow Alcohol to moveeasily from the inside open camber to the inter camber between the two outerwalls. The Upper holes have been placed there to prevent pulsing of the outerjets in order to give an even burning jet outside as the main heat source. Forthis particular stove these holes have been placed and sized to work the bestfrom year’s experimentation in use. 5.) Top Edge Tabs. On the very top edge of this particularstove there have been located four equally spaced and sized tabs. These tabscreate a small air gap between the pot and the stove. The tabs increase stove performancebecause they allow for a very small area of the pot to contact the top of thestove. This feature is important because of the overall operation of the stovefor two reasons, and here is why. Because these types of stoves work frominternal heat which causes the alcohol to boil into vapor to power the outsidejets, if the pot is cold and completely contacts the top surface of the stove,it can suck out the heat required for the stove to operate and therefore causethe stove flame to go completely out. These tabs prevent this from happening. The other purpose of the tabs is to prevent the pot from sealing itself to thetop of the stove causing increased internal pressure which can force rawAlcohol out of the outside jets instead of vapor, producing a Hugh flame whichcould be dangerous. Thanks for looking and good luck in all of your endeavors, and have a Great Day!! Stove Specifications: ~ 2 1/8″ Tall ~ 2 1/4″ Wide Weighs ~ 34 Grams, 1.2 oz. Boil times in Alaska in temperatures ranging from 40-60 degrees F, 22 ounces of water, temp 40 about 6 min 40 seconds ( 1 1/4 ounces of fuel ) , temp 60 about 5 min 20 sec ( 1 ounce of fuel ) I use the “wick” when it’s below 50 degrees, it makes for faster bloom times, and 1/16 of an ounce wets the whole wick well. I use a 900ml and a 1.3ml Evernew pots. These pots work well in Alaska because of their wide profile ( for boiling water ). Thanks for a great product !” Ebay Member ahckarla Wrote: “So a year later. I’ve used this stove nearly every day. Winter spring summer and fall. With out fail. This stove starts and works great. Thanks”
